How to Cook on Your Boat
Owning a boat grants you access to a whole new avenue of entertaining. Whether you’ve got a big group of friends to amuse or you want to take your next family reunion out on the water, your boat can be the center of the action.
One of the most important factors in any party or gathering is what to eat. While you can take the time to prepare food in advance or purchase pre-cooked food to bring on board, there are also ways you can cook on your boat, with a little preparation! Follow these tips to learn more.
1. Cut Things Up on Shore
To avoid anyone having to use a knife on a boat, cut up everything in advance while you’re docked or at your house. Bring containers of cut-up meats and vegetables and fruits that will help you to save on prep time.
2. Thicken Liquids
A hot soup or chowder might sound good, but it’s best if you don’t serve hot liquids without thickening them first. Use cornstarch mixed in cold water or some instant mashed potato flakes to thicken your liquid foods for safe consumption.
3. Use a Portable Grill
Boat grills are designed to be used responsibly on your boat while you’re on the water. They typically either mount to the top of a stool or can be mounted to the boat in some other fashion for stability. Exercise caution when loading up charcoal and lighting the grill; make sure that anything flammable is far away.
